A: Keeping bottles cold for a long journey can be difficult, but not impossible. Make sure you have a cooler with ice packs large enough to contain the amount of milk your child will need while traveling (take extra quantities along as babies have a way of becoming more thirsty when we are least prepared!) Freeze the ice packs at least a day in advance, and freeze whatever bottles of milk your child will not need to drink for the first few hours of the journey. It will take a while for the frozen bottles to thaw out once they are out of the freezer, and they will help keep the remaining non-frozen bottles at refrigerated temperatures for a longer period of time.
Also, if traveling by plane, ask the flight attendant if you can re-freeze your ice packs if they start to warm up. Some planes have large freezers but others do not, so this is not always a guaranteed solution. But it never hurts to ask.
